My Blog Has Moved

Well folks, I've finally done it. I've switched to WordPress and my blog is now on my own domain. So say good-bye to Blogger and good-bye to the bling. But don't be sad. Life is full of change. Change is a good thing. It keeps us on our toes. It challanges us and makes us stronger. And as your next President... oops, I got a little speechy there, didn't I?

Anyway, check me out at:

I'll look for you there.

Fake Cop, Real Story, Really Scary

I belong to a group called The Secret is in the Sauce. If you've read my blog before, you probably know about them cause I've posted about them many times. It's a group of blogging gals, called SITS (Sisters in the Sauce) and me, a BITS. (Brother in the Sauce) Anyway, one of the "requirements" of belonging to this group is to visit the main blog every day and leave a comment on the current post. The post will also list links to other SITS member's sites where we visit and leave comments as well. Now, what does this have to do with fake cops?

Well, I was leaving my comment today when I noticed that the day's first commenter was Kristan over at The Cover Family Chaos. Kristan is a mother to three and married to a man in law enforcement. Today she posted about her experience with being stopped by a cop impersonator on the way home from the Wal-Mart.

This is serious stuff folks. This woman was heading home from a public place with child in tow. Obviously nothing happened or she would not have been able to post about it. And although she doesn't offer any advice as to what to do in the situation, her story is compelling none-the-less. If you don't think it could happen to you, think again. Go read her story here to find out what happened and how the local authorities handled it. And for more reading about what to do if you suspect the officer stopping you is not a real officer, go here or here.

One thing I was told to do in a situation like that is call 911 and see if he is a real cop if you are unsure. Also ask for the cop's badge number, if possible.

That's absolutely terrifying.

Thank goodness these days for cell phones.

It makes the world just a bit safer, even if it is somewhat limited.

That is scary. Very important to keep the info fresh in the brain. One can never be too careful with safety. Thanks for the reminder Preston.

SJ - I've read where it's been said to call 911 to verify if the officer is real. That's a very good option.

Jaina - It's very scary.

Purplegreenpops.com - I agree that cell phones do help make the world a little safer.

Jerrie - Yup, you never can be too careful.

Wow, that is really scary. I have a new teen driver and here is a new one I need to go over with her.

We just discussed this today in my home-ec class.
Also I told them about the fake UPS man who can ring your doorbell with a fake package.
Scary world.

Thank you for stopping by my blog today! Nice to meet the fellow BITS!

Have a fantastic week!

Heathersister - Better safe than sorry, that's what I say.

Erin, Nick, and Merrick - I heard about the fake UPS man too. You can never be too cautious.

I'm scared to death of that happening to me. You are supposed to be able to call 911 and they can tell you if there is a real police officer trying to pull you over. I think someone said that.

It's true. You can never be too careful. I think every woman, and even men, should take a self defense course.

that is terrifying! Thank God she is okay!

that's scary stuff, man. as if people aren;t paranoid and distrusting of cops in the first place, y'know?

Preston said...

Jewelstreet - Yes, I've read that many times. The instructions are to acknowledge the officer, don't roll down your window, and call 911 for confirmation.

The Eadle Family - It's very scary. She's very lucky.

Mystery Man - Yup, but it's better to be a little paranoid and play it safe.

Hey Preston!
Thank you for getting the word out and not just creating fear; but helping your SITSta's to know what to do if something like that ever did happen!

Linda sounds like a true friend! (read your following post too) We all need those in life!

Thank you for stopping by yest. and for taking the time to read my very long post! I try not to get all wordy often...it's sometimes difficult to abbreviate life! Have an awesome day!

Shanda - Your welcome! And I agree you with. What's the sense of knowing about a danger if you aren't offered some advice with how to deal with it.

Linda is a wonderful friend. Crazy, yes but so am I.
